I've been studying the images that are the beginning of the series Close to Nature ... I'm not sure that this will remain the title as the project has some way to go yet.
When I look at this one and the name I've given it Hidden ... the trees are hidden by the mist and I love this. I feel the spiritual companionship of nature and I feel I belong. There are many reasons for my sense of belonging in nature. I was fortunate to be born in a picturesque small village in Wales. As a child I would spend all my time playing in the woods, on the river side, exploring for hours on my bike, just always being outside. Although I had many older siblings, I have never had any problems being alone, quite happy to entertain myself both as a child and as I grew to maturity. I enjoy my own company. The reason I enjoy photography so much is that I can lose myself in the landscape and use my intuition to photograph what I see.
In photography there is always a hint of the autobiographical. The life I live in the present is a quiet one. I don't spend much time out in the world, happy for now to be immersed in nature and home. So hidden has a second meaning, apart from the spiritual element of nature and its hidden qualities; I sometimes see myself as hidden from the world.
