Being an Airbnb Host

I discovered Airbnb while having my hair cut at my local Andrew Price Hairdressers. I hadn't heard of it before then. I was chatting to my hairdresser Kirsty, who mentioned that a friend of hers was an Airbnb host, and was able to make a little extra income doing this. I thought then, what a good idea, I could do that. So I decided to research the website and see what it would entail. It was easy to register and to verify myself on the website. It took me a couple of weeks to pluck up the courage to go live, but I haven't regretted it one bit.

I registered with Airbnb in August, a little late for the summer season visitors, but since then I have hosted three guests. They have all been lovely people who I have enjoyed meeting. They have all been thoughtful, considerate and a pleasure to host in my home. I feel very lucky to have been blessed with these lovely guests.

I have a two bedroom flat which isn't very big, so I decided to host only one guest at a time. I have called my my Airbnb home Single Travellers Rest. I had originally considered using my double bedroom for two people, but decided that my flat would comfortably accommodate one person. Having two extra people in my flat may have been a little overcrowded. I am happy with my decision although I probably won't have as many reservations as I would have with two guests.

I am trying to think of how I can encourage more guests. I am a regular Tweeter so I do try and add my Airbnb page at least once or twice a week, maybe I should do that every day. I also post my page on my google home page, and I have added my Airbnb website page to as many of my social media pages as I can.

It is a great way to earn a little extra income and to meet people who I would not normally who have been interesting and delightful. I only hope that my future guests will be as agreeable.

The City of St David

St David's may have its City status, but it is a small village surrounded by the beauty and magnificence of the Pembrokeshire coast and countryside; the Preseli hills as its back drop. St David's Cathedral erected in the 12th Century was a popular pilgrimage throughout the middle ages.

During my week off from work, I visited St David's as I hadn't been there for several years. It never disappoints, the Cathedral is awe inspiring. The village is full of life and popular with locals and tourists.

Sounds of Water

 Nikon Digital Images

I woke up today in a negative mind set. I had nothing planned and I felt lonely. I have to make a concerted effort to get on with the day. Bed is so temptingly safe and secure. I woke early and would dearly have loved to get up, greet the day, feel romance in the air, have a plan, but there was nothing, so I dozed for a few hours.

I knew I couldn't spend the whole day indoors, that's way to stuffy and debilitating. I got washed and dressed, and made my way to a path at the top of this little market town I live in. and then I walked for about three miles.

The river was my comfort today. About a mile into my walk, I came to a stream where I could sit and contemplate. The sounds of the water filled my ears, the stream moved in its constant motion and I felt relatively at peace. They say the river takes away your troubles, fears and woes, so I tried to let them all go and watched them floating away. I'm not sure it worked today, but I tried.

While I sat there watching the water flow, my thoughts were of laughter. I love to laugh. I don't have enough laughter in my life. But all these memories of laughter with my mam, my sister, my brother, my daughter, my son, and my friends came flooding back to me. Mother nature reminding me that I am loved I guess. Memories I hold tight and close to my heart.

I walked on until I came to the end of the wooded path and turned on to the road. Another mile or so and I knew that Bridge Hill was near. It is a very steep hill leading me home.

Archive Images 2010

I've been searching through my external hard-drive, looking at past images mostly from the time I was doing my Degree at Art College, but some even further back. I'm going to share a few on my blog in the coming days and weeks. These are from 2010
